While not a box office success as Luc Besson's The Fifth Element was, his 2nd epic space opera, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets nevertheless belongs somewhere in the canon of worthy sci-fi films, boasting the largest ever budget for an indie film of any genre at the time of its release in 2017:
