As I understand it, the USDA’s Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) and Local Food for Schools (LFS) programs have been terminated.
Both of these have value. The LFPA provides grants for
The Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA) uses non-competitive cooperative agreements to provide funding for state, tribal and territorial governments to purchase foods produced within the state or within 400 miles of the delivery destination to help support local, regional and underserved producers.
And LFS provides grants for
Through the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program (LFS), USDA will award funds to states for food assistance purchases of domestic local foods for distribution to schools and child care institutions.
AFAIK, these programs originated during COVID and then were continued afterward. They seem like good programs because they pay locals to feed locals.
Unfortunately, it appears the new administration in it’s assault on all our safety nets has killed them.
