The Woody Guthrie for Our Times? Jesse Welles' "SpaceXplosion" [1]

Damn this kid is fast!

I discovered Jesse Welles less than a month ago. In that time he appears to have penned, recorded, and released six new songs. His Texarkana persona is as homemade as your grandma’s apple pie — born and raised in Ozark, Arkansas, Jesse Welles has never had to rediscover his roots.

His latest, SpaceXplosion, lives up to the same standards as his viral hits Walmart and War Isn’t Murder. Not everyone is going to like him, of course, but to me his blend of bleak humor, honesty, and razor-eyed insight combine into a heartful, eloquent howl against the black night of our times.

I go to Randy Rainbow to laugh at the bastards. I go to Jesse Welles to hear my rage and pain embraced and transformed into song.

Bonus song! United Health was, I believe, his first song to go viral — this audience sure seems to know it word for word! Lyrics below in the comments for those who can’t see embedded youtube videos :-)
