The United States of Canada: my fantasy du jour [1]

I want Justin Trudeau to give the following speech:
My fellow North Americans. We Canadians are sympathetic to what the citizens of the USA are going through these days, and we'd like to help. Unfortunately we cannot host a mass immigration. However, we'd like to invite any state currently bordering Canada or the Great Lakes to secede and join us as part of the new United States of Canada. That would include Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. In addition to these 16 states, any state bordering a state that decides to join the United States of Canada would also become eligible to join us.
This will help foster a Grand Realignment so that red and blue states don't have to fight anymore. As an added benefit, by joining the United States of Canada, our new member states would remain allies with Europe through a renewed NATO.
The United States of Canada would offer to exchange ambassadors with its new neighbor to the south, Magastan.
