How Do I Hate Thee? Let Me Count the Ways [1]

Republicans are no strangers to racism and hatred. It’s been two of their staples for a long time.
From Richard Nixon’s Southern Strategy, to Ronald Reagan’s “states’ rights,” to John McCain’s “they’re taking your money.” Heck, we can even go back to Sen. Joe McCarthy and his communist witch hunts of the 1950s.
The latest iteration is our current president, four-time indicted, twice impeached, sexual assaulter, tax fraudster, insurrection inspirer, wannabe fascist dictator, convicted felon, Putin bitch Donald Trump.
Almost every day we’re reminded that a large part of Trump’s popularity is his appeal to our most disgusting instincts. It’s something we must never lose sight of. To help in the regard, here are a few recent examples:
Ukraine
Trump is weighing whether to revoke the temporary legal status of 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the war with Russia, Reuters reported. They could be put on a fast-track to deportation.
Add this to his pausing of both military aide and intelligence information to the Ukrainian army and you can see what’s happening here. Trump is trying to force Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky – who he hates with a passion – to agree to a deal that will give Russian President Vladimir Putin pretty much everything he wants in the war between their two countries that started when Russia invaded Ukraine.
Just imagine dumping a quarter of a million people – probably a fair amount of them women and children, although I don’t know the breakdown – into a country in the midst of the biggest conflict since World War II. We’re going to need more body bags, and Trump doesn’t care.
He figures more dead Ukrainians will simply give him more leverage to force Zelensky to do what he wants. If that isn’t criminal, then it ought to be.
In her newsletter, Heather Cox Richardson writes that these people had to be completely financially independent, pay tax, pay all fees (around $2,000), and have an affidavit from an America person to come here.
Cox quotes Russia specialist Tom Nichols as posting: “This is just cruelty to show Putin he has a new American ally.”
In the big picture, Trump is looking to strip legal status from hundreds of thousands of people allowed to enter the United States under temporary humanitarian parole programs that started under the Biden administration – including folks from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Afghanistan.
We knew he wanted to get rid of more than just “illegal immigrants.” Trump and a lot of his followers would be delighted if every non-white person was removed from this country, no matter what their status.
It’s been written here before that the current administration and some of its supporters want to make the United States a white nationalist and Christian nationalist country. Screwing over Zelensky and Ukraine to help Putin is just icing on the cake.

DEI
Trump’s war against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is simple racism and misogyny. It’s pandering to every unhappy white person who thinks he or she is a victim of some type of discrimination instead of looking in the mirror and trying to figure out what needs to be done to improve his or her lot in life.
Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia/Trump hatchet man Ed Martin wrote a letter to the prestigious Georgetown University Law Center warning that unless it immediately ends its DEI efforts his Justice Department office will not hire students from there.
“At this time, you should know that no applicant for our fellows program, our summer internship, or employment in our office who is a student or affiliated with a law school or university that continues to teach and utilize DEI will be considered,” Martin wrote, according to a story from the Guardian.
No word whether he put his thumbs in his ears, stuck out his tongue, and shouted “nah, nah, nah, nah, nah” at any point in this process.
The Guardian reported that he had to send the letter twice because it was misaddressed the first time. I guess he must have sent it to the other Georgetown University Law Center in Washington. Honestly, this guy is some kind of boob.
You can read the Guardian story here.
This prompted a response letter from William Treanor, dean of the law school, who told Martin that the First Amendment prevents the government from telling the school what to teach, the Associated Press reported.
There’s that damn Constitution again.
“Given the First Amendment’s protection of a university’s freedom to determine its own curriculum and how to deliver it, the constitutional violation behind this threat is clear, as is the attack on the University’s mission as a Jesuit and Catholic institution,” Treanor wrote.
Treanor closed the letter by writing, “We look forward to your confirming that any Georgetown-affiliated candidates for employment with your office will receive full and fair consideration.”
You can read the AP story here.
A couple of things here. First, probably just about any Georgetown law school graduate, should he or she be shunned by the federal government, is going to make a hell of a lot more money in the private sector, anyway.
Plus, if the feds want to load up with lawyers only from schools who they can bully like this, then they should be prepared to lose a lot of cases in court, probably a lot of times to those Georgetown attorneys they didn’t want.
Are we great yet?
More DEI (And It’s Just As Stupid)
Our Defense Department, under the leadership of accused drunk/sexual assaulter/blithering idiot Pete Hegseth, takes a backseat to no one when it comes to making overt racism and misogyny part of its mission.
More than 26,000 photos and online posts have been marked for deletion because they allegedly run up against the anti-DEI position of the Trump administration, the Associated Press reported. The eventual total be as many as 100,000 when considering social media pages and other websites.
The vast majority of the Pentagon purge targets women and minorities – such as Blacks, Hispanics, and Pacific Islanders -- including notable milestones made in the military, the AP said. It also removes a large number of posts that mention various commemorative months – such as those for Black and Hispanic people and women.
Two examples are photos flagged for removal of World War II Medal of Honor recipient PFC Harold Gonsalves, who was honored for his heroism and valor at Okinawa, and PFC Christina Fuentes Montenegro, one of the first three females to ever graduate from Infantry Training Battalion.
Of course, considering who’s in charge, some mistakes are showing up. It seems the word “gay,” even if it’s used in a name, is seen as a red flag.
For instance, the list includes a picture of the B-29 aircraft Enola Gay, which dropped theatomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, during World War II. The plane was named after the mother of its pilot, Col. Paul Tibbets Jr.
No word on whether Hegseth is trying to find out the sexual preference of Tibbets mother, or if the plane was involved in any kind of non-heterosexual relationship with any other planes. Has someone checked how much is missing from Hegseth’s liquor cabinet lately?
Hegseth has given the military until Wednesday to get rid of the images and photos. If they can’t get it done by them, they’ve been told to “temporarily remove from public display” all content published during the Biden administration’s four years in office.
Yeah, that sounds like an efficient way to do it.
You can read the AP story here. It includes a database of thousands of photos and images slated for removal.
I suppose this will really make the day of many of those white losers and incels sitting in their basements playing video games or spending hours at the local bar trying to drink away their problems, considering few of them could hold a candle to the bravery and dedication shown by the many men and women who our government is trying to erase from history.
Some days this country makes me sick.
