Trump and Vought’s “Targeted Trauma “ Surges [1]

Thirty years ago I was diagnosed with PTSD from 18 years of incest. At that time the groups that were cited as having PTSD were concentration camp survivors, Vietnam veterans and long term sexual abuse survivors. Since then there have been many other survivors of wars, terrorist attacks, dysfunctional relationships and more that have PTSD (and may not even know it).
When Russell Vought, one of Project 2025 authors, said he wanted to bring trauma on all the civil servants who are being fired did he also plan to cause a huge swath of regular Americans to feel traumatized? If he didn’t plan on it I’m sure he doesn’t care that his plan to take over the country is causing so much anxiety and uncertainty, so much depression and suicidal ideation.
I know after working on my own mental health for all these years I had come to a place of equanimity. Yet within a month of the inauguration of Trump and Musk I was falling asleep and waking up thinking about all these people whose lives are being upended in such a cruel and heartless way.
As I thought of the possibility of there being an actual civil war I caught myself thinking of suicide for the first time in years.
I have a good friend who came from a similar background who has been having a very hard time from being sucked under by all this horrific news. She was considering going in patient. Another friend said her boyfriend could not watch Trump because he reminded him of his raging alcoholic father. Coworkers have told me that they have to limit what they watch.
If I know that many people who have been mentally traumatized by our cold-hearted government then I am pretty sure that the number of people who are being affected is astronomical. I hope that we all find a way to get through this devastating time. But knowing we have 4 more years of unethical, uncaring dictatorial government causes me to fear for the sanity of good, caring people.
