Patronizing Politico Writer Cannot Believe That House Democrats Will Vote "NO" On Clean CR. [1]

TRIGGER WARNING: Arrogant, patronizing Politico journalist throwing out “pearls of wisdom” to her readers that it’s Democrats who may be held responsible for a government shutdown on March 14th if Democrats don’t vote for a clean continuing resolution demanded by Trump and Speaker Johnson. And Democratic leadership is only doing this because “their angry base wants them to tilt at windmills.”
It seems Rachel Bade of Politico cannot really believe that House Democrats are going to vote “NO” on a clean continuing resolution pushed by Trump and Speaker Johnson. But to her astonishment, it appears that Jeffries and his caucus are going to do just that come March 14th. The big reason for what is shaping up to be a “NO” vote for House Democrats on the CR is simply Elon Musk and his flying monkeys at DOGE.
Democrats want an end to the federal worker purges, and House Republicans like Tom Cole have stated, “That’s a non-starter” because Americans voted for this in the last election. No they didnt. Americans sure as hell did not vote to throw out 70% of the federal workforce and abolish a whole bunch of government agencies. This was a hidden part of the Project 2025 agenda that Trump claimed he knew nothing about.
Now, House Democrats have always been the adults in the room, and they have traditionally opposed any government shutdowns. And that was because Republicans were acting like the economic and political terrorists they are. The GOP has loved to shutdown the government to try and end the ACA and force Democratic presidents to accept deep budget cuts. Republican use funding deadlines and raising the debt ceiling as hostages to force their demands on Democrats. Therefore, I understand why Bade “pooh pood” the idea that House Democrats would back a government shutdown this year.
However, things are not normal with Elon Musk and Trump destroying the federal government.
Now, Bade is typical in that she thinks the progressive base of the Democratic Party is a bunch of political extremists that Democrats should not listen to. According to her, the extremes of both parties are usually the ones who push drastic actions like government shutdowns. I might remind her that progressives are not extremists who do that kind of shit, but she’s engaging in bothsiderism.
Usually shutdown saber-rattling originates on the fringes of the two parties and gains momentum until leaders just can’t ignore it, lest they risk their own jobs...Perhaps most importantly, Democrats up and down the leadership chain are hearing not only from the liberal base but people they consider more mainstream — donors, strategists and constituents who believe they need to show some fight, and fast.
Emphasis is mine.
Suddenly I’m not a constituent if I am a progressive because I’m not “mainstream.” I’m sure that will be news to my Democratic Congressman Morgan McGarvey. And when’s the last time that progressives called for a government shutdown? This is the first time that I am aware we are doing this.
Oh, I may not be some fuckin’ fat cat donor, but I’ve more than given political donations for the last several years (hundreds of dollars to be precise). And Lord knows that the Democratic Party considers me an ATM (damn texts on my cell phone all the time asking for money). But you know us political extremist on the fringe of the party!
Also, and I had to laugh here, Bade is claiming that this new found clammoring for a government shutdown is being driven from — what for it — the LEADERSHIP IN THE HOUSE! Not by people like us voters who have called, written, and showed up at town hall meetings screaming for our elected representatives to FIGHT TRUMP!
Additionally, the comments from anonymous House Democrats in her article refutes this notion.
A senior Democratic lawmaker was blunter: “At some point you’ve got to have a goddamn backbone. I am not giving them a blank check until September.”...“It’s very hard to go back to those people and say, ‘Yeah, I voted for the status quo here and did nothing to stand up,’” the second House Democratic aide said… During a recent meeting between Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and his committee leaders, top appropriator Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut steamed about how Speaker Mike Johnson was going to try to make them swallow the clean funding extension. “No fucking way!” she shouted, a person in the room told me. Jeffries didn’t push back, and now his leadership team is gauging whether his members are willing to take this fight all the way.
That doesn’t sound like Jeffries is “leading” the charge. Jeffries and other House Democrats are getting heat from their constituents, so this is coming from the grassroots and not from the leadership.
Anyway, I am relieved to read that House Democrats may decided to take a stand and force Republicans to GOVERN on their own. And this is where Bade is lying to her readers. If there is a government shutdown, it will be because of the Democrats and not because there are a bunch of lunatic Republicans who want to see the federal government destroyed, at least according to the narrative in this article.
The Republicans are in the MAJORITY, and it’s up to them to gather up the votes for their extremist draconian budgets.
And like all bothsiderists, Bade thinks that a government shutdown may hurt Democrats rather than the Republicans. Now, I don’t buy her thinking either. The previous government shutdowns were all done by Republicans, and they never paid any political price for their fiscal hostage taking. And Bade doesn’t bother to focus her acumen on the Republican lunatics in Congress.
You can just feel the group think and condescending attitude of Bade ooze off the page.
Anyway, my point, besides showing how awful D.C. Villagers are, is that House Democrats may finally be showing some fight soon against Trump and Musk.
