Flights to Miama, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando were briefly shut down due to the risk of falling debris from a failed SpaceX Starship launch attempt. Re-entry of multiple objects was visible over Jamaica.
The first stage operated successfully, though with at least 2 engine failures, and was retrieved in a tower catch. The second stage experienced several engine failures, a loss of directional control, and an inflight breakup. The test flight was intended to be a retry of flight 7, which ended similarly.
Meanwhile, Musk’s shares in Tesla lost in excess of $6B, just for today.
Also, Trump appeared to begin to reel Musk in just a bit today, clarifying who is in charge of mass firings. It’ll be interesting to see how their relationship continues to develop, given Trump’s falling approval ratings.
One would think that the repetitive Starship failures would generate a little more scrutiny from the FAA. We’ll see if that happens.
Sorry, Elon.
