Democrats only self-own when they refuse to fight back. [1]

In the midst of this currently unfolding national disaster, as our closest allies are forced to turn away and even those who voted for Trump a few months ago are beginning to second-guess that decision, Democrats on the whole are showing their best Susan Collins level of concern. So-called “third way” Democrats are pondering how quickly and how far they can move to the “center” and capitulate to the maga agenda, while blue-state Democratic Representatives are scolding their colleague Rep. Al Green for making too dramatic a spectacle of his objections. McSweeney’s is supposed to be a site for humor but today this entry about the reluctance of Democrats to organize any meaningful group opposition reads like a sober documentary: “Okay, You Try Thinking of a Better Way to Protest President Nyarlathotep’s Terror Telecast”.

Most people in this country are angry and scared right now. Consumer confidence is plummeting — in February, the largest drop since August 2021. Even those mythical unicorns, the “swing voters”, can understand things aren’t good when our closest friends like Canada and the UK are being treated like an enemy, but our actual enemies are given everything they demand and more. Trump is speaking about Canada like his hero once spoke about Czechoslovakia, while Democrats fret about decorum. He’s telling five minutes of outright lies about Social Security to lay the groundwork for letting billionaires steal even more of our money, and Democrats are worried about being less “woke” and picking pithy slogans for a little fan.

It’s interesting to compare many of our “opposition party” members to Zelenskiy, who was forced to be as diplomatic and agreeable as possible for the sake of saving his entire country and people from ongoing destruction, yet still managed to resist the lies and show courage and and dignity in the face of the most shameful display of treachery in the White House. Have that kind of integrity, Democrats. Your re-election campaign is a long way off and there is work to do in the meantime. Some of you are doing it with vigor and we appreciate you profoundly.

The framing of Democratic options between “center” and “left” is a false dilemma and has been for many years now. Is it “center” or “left” to object when national security is violated and maniacs start taking a chainsaw to vital services (now backpedaling like wild after realizing their many grave errors)? Is it “center” or “left” to object that 98% of the people in this country — and MOST of the children — are being hung out to dry economically and no rescue plan is in sight? People cannot afford groceries. Is it “center” or “left” to repeat until the media finally gets it that Trump shut down cancer research? Paid-for and in-progress and now lost, with zero financial savings?

Republican brinkmanship has for years now threatened our economic security by toying with refusal to raise the debt ceiling. It’s time at last to call their bluff. Trump says they are going to balance the budget, even though his policies were a disaster for the national debt, adding 8.4 Trillion in new debt — and even when COVID related actions are excluded, a whopping 4.8 Trillion! Let him start now to fix the problem he caused. Let Congressional Republicans take the responsibility for failure to pass a budget. Democrats need to act with unity and purpose to save our country from this mass of illegal actions underway to break down our federal government and prevent it from functioning. If doge isn’t stopped from breaking the law, illegally firing people and stealing our data and money, then no Democrat should ever vote in favor of a Republican proposal, period. None, never, not once. Am I wrong? If so, tell me why below.
