Another Dispatch from Europe or, It's Those Darn Warmongering French [1]

NOW IT’S THOSE darn warmongering French who are interrupting the lovely Kremlin-guided rapprochement with their partners in the Trump government who go on TV and repeat back Russian talking points. They might have invaded a sovereign nation and killed hundreds of thousands, but the US made them do that. "We want peace, man."
And as for lying to the US about it, or Putin's threat to use nuclear weapons at the opening stage of the invasion, well, that never happened, or it was all Joe Biden's fault. Or something like that.
But the US is retreating from the transatlantic alliance, leaving behind pretty sizable partners with much older histories of playing a role on the continent. Did the Russians really think that if they turned the Americans, all of the Europeans would fall in line? Maybe we should all just commit suicide and get it over with then? The fault in Russian strategic thinking is that it is based on their own ideas about the world. They think that somewhere, some supreme leader is controlling things and calling the shots, because that's how Russian society is organized. This is proving to not be the case, as new "enemies" pop up, the French, the Swedes, the Germans! It's those warlike evil Europeans.
Remember when it was the Anglo-Saxons who were up to no good?
Russia cannot accept European peacekeepers in Ukraine. But Europe cannot accept a Russian takeover of Ukraine either. The Russians' policy is what? They reserve the right to bomb a disarmed Ukraine into oblivion? Europeans rearming themselves is a threat to a country that brought North Koreans in to fight its war on the West? If it's a war, then it's a war, Mr. Lavrov. You said so yourself. You shall get what you get then. You have 140 million people. Europe has 500 million people. Even with all the Chechen, North Korean, Nepali, and Cuban soldiers of fortune out there, you already lost. This is how their "US out of NATO" plan backfired, like Sweden and Finland were supposed to stay neutral.
