One Crucial Takeaway From Trump’s Speech [1]

“Unprecedented” is too weak of a word to describe just how far Trump’s speech diverged from the history of presidential addresses to Congress. Befitting of this malignant narcissist, this bloviating display was an all-time record longest such speech, lasting a painful hour and forty minutes.
But more importantly, this was a terrifying combination of easily provable lies, constant hostility, and absolute partisanship…the likes of which we have never before seen in an address to Congress. Add in a touch of gleefully demonstrating authoritarian power when he called for the Sargent at Arms to expel a Democratic Congressman who was vocally protesting.
Aside from the theatrics, however, I want to focus on one critically important takeaway.
Absolutely missing from his speech was any mention at all of his repeated campaign pledge to “not touch” Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. On the contrary, he spent an inordinate amount of time repeating the ridiculous charge that DOGE had somehow found that there were literally “millions” of people in the Social Security system who were 130…140…150 etc. years old. Make no mistake about it, that was inserted into his speech to provide a rationale for going after Social Security.
Analysts have repeatedly pointed out that the only way to find budget cuts sufficient to offset the $4.5 trillion dollar tax cuts Trump wants… overwhelmingly benefitting billionaires and large corporations…is to slash Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. That speech should serve as a stark forewarning: TRUMP AND MUSK ARE GOING TO ATTACK SOCIAL SECURITY!
