Every Line, Every Box, Every Year [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

I have used the most popular desktop tax software for over 35 years, and have always found it accurate. To the point of complacency.

I know full well to check the printout before filing my tax return. In fact I did this year, at least for every block with a number. But there are ottthhherrrr lines that just have check boxes. They count too-oo.

In my case the error was in Form 5695, for credits for home energy saving investments. As you know, you can always step through and review your inputs. My inputs were correct, but the output on the .pdf had “No” for three lines that I had checked “Yes.” It’s true that the software made a mistake, but I am the one that signed and filed the return.

I can only blame myself, but it’s especially irritating that 2025 is the year I made the mistake, because Elon only knows when the IRS will get around to processing returns with mistakes, given that they are under attack. If anyone from IRS is reading this and can offer estimated times for addressing returns with mistakes, please let us know.
