Power for The People - Prepping for the Worst. Remember #Occupy? [1]

Recent news and many posts on here from the Kossacks have reminded me of the time after the 2008 crash, when the shit was hitting the fan, and we all were feeling desperate. It was really really bad, people were losing their homes, businesses shuttered, and there was just a lot of chaos. Literally “banks got bailed out and we got sold out.”

I was feeling the pain as well, and started supporting the local #OWS (Occupy Wall Street) movement. The main success of the Occupy movement was that they “occupied a space” (in this case Cesar Chaves Park in Sacramento) and some sat there on laptops sending out lots of social media coverage from the “media tent”.

But the “media tent” didn’t have much power to operate on, and that was a problem. I was already into (experimental) “prepping” so I brought over a 12V battery and inverter they could use to charge laptops. It lasted a few hours, which was insufficient for a 24/7 operation. Lesson learned.

Unfortunately the power source that actually could get the job done was a gas powered generator, which was loud and not environmentally friendly. We all agreed that it was terrible, but we kept bringing 5gal containers of gas to keep it going. Yeah.

We kept trying out better solar panels and batteries, but nothing really got the job done. Still, I’ve kept up with solar panels and batteries, using them for camping and powering the electric trolling motor for my inflatable raft. Good times.

And in recent weeks I did some “panic buying” because I think prices are about to go up on everything due to tariffs. But also I wanted to have some newer and better battery packs and solar panels for whatever movement comes next.

I think the combination of protesting and broadcasting to social media from that site is very powerful. And it will require power. This time I have 3 battery packs, and 2 solar panels, which is better. But I’m very ready to make more.

Power 4 the people!!!
