“MAYDAY!” is an internationally recognized signal of distress. Therefore it is fitting that Indivisible, MoveOn, the Working Families Party, and other groups declare one day in May as a national day of distress by calling on their members to take to the streets. I suggest that MAYDAY marches and demonstrations be directed at members of Congress, both the House and the Senate. Rather than one big rally in Washington (which ought to be called for as well, perhaps for Independence Day) ask demonstrators to focus on the local offices of their senators and representatives with cameras rolling. Think about it. News clips of Indivisible members picketing the offices of Republican members of Congress in front of their offices in deep red districts all over America. Members in blue districts can picket their Democratic representatives and senators, demanding that they get tougher against the Trump administration. Now is the time to begin planning for a national MAYDAY observance. I hope at least one of these groups will take this idea and run with it.
