A Growing Democratic Boycott of Trump's Screech [1]

News reports show a small — but growing — number of Democratic Senators and Representatives saying they will not give Trump the opportunity to to scream into their faces the way he did to Zelenskyy. Well, they aren’t putting it into those words, but they are saying they will boycott Tuesday’s rant and screech. And since Trump loves nothing so much as a crowd, he will not be happy to see empty chairs — especially when he was hoping to have another captive audience whom he can bully and berate and mock.
Democratic boycott builds against Trump speech to Congress:
A Democratic boycott is developing ahead of President Trump's address to Congress on Tuesday, Axios has learned. . . . Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), one of the most senior Democrats in the Senate, will not attend Trump's speech on Tuesday, Axios has learned
Neither will Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), who will instead host an online town hall.
Several Democrats to boycott Trump's 'pep rally' speech to Congress (from Fox News, no less):
[S]ome Democrats are planning to skip the event, including Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., who will instead hold a live prebuttal of the speech. "I think that State of the Union speech is going to be a farce. I think it's going to be a MAGA pep rally, not a serious talk to the nation," Murphy told CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday. "I think Donald Trump is going to spew a series of lies about his alignment with Russia, about what he's trying to do to allow Elon Musk to essentially monetize the American government to enrich Musk and his billionaire crowd," Murphy said. "And I'm just not going to be a part of that." Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, will join Murphy for the prebuttal of the speech that will be livestreamed while Trump is speaking. At least one House Democrat, Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., also said that he is going to be skipping the address.
(It’s not clear from the article if Schatz will actually skip the speech.)
Other planned actions include:
One more conspicuous gesture of protest will come from members of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, which will be making a statement with their choice of clothing, according to Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-N.M.), the group’s chair. It’s a reprise of a gesture they employed during the first Trump term, when they wore white to honor suffragettes. www.politico.com/...
and Democrats invite fired federal workers to Trump's address to Congress:
Some Democrats are inviting fired federal workers to President Trump's address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday instead of boycotting the speech. . . . Democratic Rep. Eric Sorenson of Illinois invited James Diaz, a disabled veteran who was laid off in February as a fuel compliance officer at the IRS. Diaz supports many of Mr. Trump's policies, according to Sorenson's office, but has been disappointed in how federal workers, especially veterans, have been treated during the president's overhaul of the government.
One possible consequence of these actions is that Trump may respond to this insult to his majesty by blowing a gasket on live TV. (He got red in the face while bullying Zelenskyy last Friday, so there’s a chance it’ll happen again.) The more the country sees just how unhinged and unfit he is, the more resistance will form against him.
We need all the resistance we can get.
