White to move and mate in two #634 — Mykonos, part 3 [1]

My exploits so far regards getting myself to one of the Greek islands for a few days R & R got me as far as narrowly missing a flight to Corfu:

White to move and mate in two #622 — Mykonos, part 2

Fortunately, this being the day after I had booked the Corfu flight, when I returned to the Olympic Airways ticket desk there was a different woman there behind one of the terminals. 'Just missed my flight to Corfu,' I explained. 'Do you have any availability for this afternoon on a flight to one of the islands? I don't really care which one.' [Clickety clack ... clickety clickety clack ... click ... bit of a pause] 'I see a flight to Mykonos at 3PM,' she said. 'Will that be OK?' 'Oh, that would be great,' I replied. And I was able to exchange this morning's unused ticket for the new one, these flights being arranged at such short notice that I was paying full fare, so no penalty for a change.

At this point in time there were only two ways to get to Mykonos — either by ferry or by small propeller-driven aircraft — because Mykonos did not yet have a jet-capable runway, though I discovered upon arrival that one was in the works. It was the first time I'd flown in anything like a Short's 330. Of the 30 seats only about a half dozen were occupied. My seat was right under the wing next to a propeller, and it was very noisy there. But the view was spectacular. There were shuttle buses in the small airport to take us into the town, where I was able to find a room for a few nights. That evening I had a quick meal of some grilled meat and rice at a nice little seaside cafe, washed down with a few beers and a shot or two of ouzo, then turned in early.

It turned out there was only one beach on Mykonos, and it's called Paradise Beach. You couldn't get there by bus or even by foot, so you had to pay a few drachma to hire a fishing boat for the 20 minutes it took to go around the island to the beach. Another spectacular view here too — water so crystal clear you could see the bottom (and the odd school of tropical fish!) 10 or 15 feet below. Paradise Beach was aptly named, a beautiful long strip of white sand with a nice bar & restaurant right behind it. It was a blissful two days there, and little did I know that I would return here just a few years later, but under entirely different circumstances.

And now, on to tonight's puzzle. Below are links to an on-line board to help you work the puzzle, and the solution. But don't peek at the answer until you've made an honest attempt to solve the puzzle, or you'll spoil the fun!
