Our direct citizen action in Pasadena [1]

So my housemate got an invite from one of her former coworkers last week: “Protest and beer, Saturday March 1st, 2PM.”
Protest AND beer? Sign me up!
This is the second anti-Trump protest that I’ve attended this year and this time I made sure to make a sign, which I didn’t do the first time. We went down to Staples and found some somewhat expensive materials, even though Michael’s was next door we refuse to give them business.
So I got my hands on a large white board (for $16.99, crikey!) and some kid’s paints with 12 colors and proceeded to make a sign. What would it say, exactly? Well, given the fact that our location was going to be over the 210 freeway I figured it should be short, sweet, and easy to read (thanks to Freewayblogger’s instructions!). So I painted “BAD DOGE” on one side and “DEPORT ELON” on the other.
We got down to the pre-arranged location and met the other folks that were in attendance. We decided to split 30 or 40 people into two groups so we could cover both directions of traffic. And what a great location it was! The overpass was about a mile east of where the 210 and the 134 converge so that means there would tons of traffic going in both directions rather slowly, even on a Saturday afternoon.
So how did it go? Well to put it bluntly we got a LOT of honking support from people driving past. And even though a few people flipped us the bird our shouted “MAGA! MAGA! MAGA!” or gave us the thumbs-down, they were in the VAST minority. We had drivers, motorcycle riders, and even truckers honking their horns and waving at us. We even had a US Army emblazoned semi-truck give us a blast of support. People were definitely resonating with what we were doing.
In two hours I would say thousands of people saw our protest and hundreds of them honked in support. It’s not much right now but these small actions can grow into larger and larger protests which absolutely needs to happen. Obviously we’re going to get more lovers than haters here in deep blue SoCal but hopefully these actions can spread.
