Death Don’t Have No Mercy [1]

I was listening to music this March 2, 2025 morning. The algorithm on my music application brought up the song Death Don’t Have No Mercy by Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters (a cover of that song by the Reverend Gary Davis, which song was based on traditional African American spirituals; lyrics below.)
The actions of this Administration are causing death around the country and around the world.
It struck me that that this is how we should interpret the current crisis in the U.S. and the World.
This approach frees us from the blame game. It doesn’t matter how we got here or whose fault it is. The issue is not about Republicans and Democrats, or conservatives and liberals.
It means it is now time to act.
There will soon be special elections to fill House seats vacated by Cabinet and Agency appointments. Having seen the effects of the current Administration, voters will be looking for candidates who will fix the problems we are seeing. But be warned – the oligarchs and billionaires will see this threat and will pour resources into candidates who will keep them in power. And many of the media will avoid angering the current Administration due to threats of being sued or attacked.
We the people need to stop the tribal accusations against each other and recognize the incredible importance of informing ourselves and each other about the issues and candidates. Every vote counts in those special elections. If you are able, consider giving your financial support to candidates.
If those elections change the balance of power in the House, there will be an opportunity to elect a new Speaker of the House. (The Speaker of the House is third in the line of succession to the Presidency.)
It is now time for the House to begin gathering votes for the Impeachment of the President. Because of this current crisis, loyalty to party is less important that the urgency of the crisis. House Members of all parties need to work together. To protect each other, the vote must be unanimous. House Members must act quickly and simply. We are in the middle of a crisis. People are dying and more are going to die.
The Senate must prepare to hold the trial. The trial must proceed without delay. And, as with the House Vote, to protect each other, the vote must be unanimous. We are in the middle of a crisis. People are dying and more are going to die.
When you talk to fellow voters, Members of Congress and the White House, remember that yelling, accusations and blame will not change minds. People need space to change their mind, and they need to feel that they are safe to change their mind. Reassure them that you will stand behind them and support them through difficult decisions.
Congressional staff and White House switchboard operators hear a lot of vitriol, and yelling at them won’t change anything. But Congress and the White House need to hear from all of us so that we can make them aware of the magnitude of the crisis we are now in, and the level of anger and disagreement of the public.
