Anti-Capitalist Meetup: Open Thread [1]

The Trump administration is busy turning the United States government into autocracy with ongoing purges and flouting of the United States Constitution. Republicans cheer it on, while Democrats fight halfway in electoral politicking that has long neglected rural voters and populism.

Here is an open thread to discuss any of our ongoing travails or potential solutions.

One planetary worry is action by the Trump administration to cancel mandates for action on greenhouse gas pollution.

As President Donald Trump’s administration looks to reverse a cornerstone finding that climate change endangers human health and welfare, scientists say they just need to look around because it’s obvious how bad global warming is and how it’s getting worse.

Among the harms in such action are catastrophic weather events, ocean acidification, risks to food production, spread of infectious disease, mental distress, and security destablization,

Part of executive purging is happening at NOAA, where they help us to understand weather and climate.

It is not only laid-off employees who will be harmed by the cuts, the second worker said. Ordinary Americans who rely on Noaa’s extreme weather forecasts, climate data and sustainably monitored fisheries will also suffer.

So far, climate data appears to be online. That may not last, and don’t expect upgrades and service while Republicans are in charge.
