A Death Sentence for Orphans: Trump and Musk’s USAID Freeze is Killing Children [1]

For the HIV-positive orphans at Nyumbani Children’s Home in Nairobi, Kenya, Donald Trump’s freeze on U.S. humanitarian aid is a death sentence. The orphanage, which provides life-saving medical care to around 100 children, depends on antiretroviral medication funded through USAID. But with aid still blocked, their supply of essential drugs is dwindling.
Take Evans, a two-year-old boy who was brought to Nyumbani a year ago, suffering from HIV and tuberculosis. His condition was so severe that a local health center referred him to the orphanage when he stopped responding to treatment. Now, with medication running out, Evans and dozens of other children face the unthinkable: a death sentence.
And Evans is far from alone. Without USAID’s support, an estimated six million people will die from HIV/AIDS in the next four years. But it’s not just HIV patients at risk. Food aid produced by American farmers for starving families in Sudan, Haiti, and Yemen is rotting in warehouses. Disaster relief teams that once contained outbreaks of Ebola and cholera have been grounded. These cuts aren’t about saving money—they’re about cruelty.
Musk and Trump’s Profits Over People
While Trump guts humanitarian aid from the White House, Elon Musk is making things worse. Musk and his billionaire allies are pushing for privatized disaster relief, profiting off human suffering while lifesaving food and medicine sit unused. Trump, too busy handing tax cuts to billionaires like Musk, ignores the 50,000 American workers who lost their jobs when USAID funding dried up.
Trump and Musk think they can get away with this. It’s up to us to prove them wrong. Lives are on the line. Let’s act now.
