I’m keeping my Tesla (and air travel) [1]

I turn 65 years old next year. It will also be 40 years at USPS. So almost time to retire. Retirement is a years long process that takes planning. Part of that planning involved getting some big ticket items bought and paid for before I called it a career. New windows for the house and a new car were 2 of my top expenses that I wanted to get done. So in 2020, I gave my old Prius to a friends daughter for a first car and went car shopping. I went to the Tesla showroom in Westmont IL, and hopped into a Model 3. I have to say I never drove a car like that before. So I bought it. Needless to say, if I’d have known the what I know now, I’d have never walked into that showroom. But I did, and that car is now paid for. I don’t have the means or desire to have a new car payment. Plus my wife’s car is 11 years old and she’ll be needing one in the not too distant future. She’s younger than me and is still in the workforce. But this is my car into retirement.
Another part of our retirement plan is to start seeing the world. About a year ago we started a fund for a trip to Italy as my retirement gift. There are also many other places I’d like to visit while I still have the health and energy. I cannot just put my plans on hold until at least 2028. Although I’m healthy and active, my years are numbered. So I am going to continue with my plans despite the turn of events. I have only this life, and I’m not going to squander the few good years I have left.
