Sometimes to see someone’s true intentions it is best to ignore what they say and look at what they do. To see Trump’s intentions let’s look at what he is doing and project where those actions might lead.
His tariffs will damage the US economy, particularly those placed on Canada and Mexico whose manufacturing supply chains are tightly integrated with the USA’s.
His policies around Europe and Ukraine will damage the NATO alliance and cast the US as an unreliable ally, threatening the stability of Europe and the world.
His statements about annexing Greenland and taking back the Panama Canal embolden Putin and China.
His cancellation of foreign aid will damage America’s reputation in the 3rd world and open a void that America’s adversaries will rush to fill.
His firing of thousands of federal employees will damage the government’s ability to serve and protect Americans - its primary job.
His tax cuts will further enrich the rich and further impoverish ordinary citizens.
His intentions are clear. He means to damage and weaken America militarily, economically and reputationally as much as he can. He cares not one jot for the American people or for American values, American traditions and American history.
And who, one wonders, benefits from this chaos? Russia perhaps?
Some will argue that all this is born from ignorance or foolishness. But I believe it is intentional. You cannot tell me that Trump does not know that his tariffs will screw the US (and world) economy, or that slashing the federal workforce will not harm the government’s ability to do its job. You can’t tell me he doesn’t know that pulling the US away from NATO strengthens Russia and weakens America’s long standing allies.
He does know these things and he does them anyway.
Americans. If you love your country you have to act. You cannot sit by and watch this happen. For all your flaws you have always been a bulwark against tyranny. You have always stood up to bullies and protected the weak. You have always been the shining city on the hill, a beacon to the oppressed. Democracy and freedom are in your DNA.
But if you want to remain the land of the free you must act. Please. For the love of God I am begging you. Do something. You have saved the world before. We need you to do it again.
