A New American Deal [1]

We’ve all heard of trickle down economics, the idea that if we give money to big corporations and the wealthy in the form of tax breaks and subsidies, they will then create more jobs and stimulate the economy. We know it doesn’t work, but it has been the driving philosophy behind our economic policy for decades. Instead, it has widened the economic divide, given corporations and the wealthy untold power, created monopolies, and destroyed the middle class.
What if, instead of giving the top tier the money, we instead give it to the middle and lower class. Not as welfare, but instead, so they can create small businesses and farms. So instead of the wealthy creating jobs, we let small businesses create the jobs. Instead of huge corporations creating dehumanizing jobs that only exploit workers, let us create small business jobs that will treat their employees like human beings and pay them more. Instead of wealth circulating at the top, let the wealth go instead to successful business owners in the middle. Instead of labor benefitting those at the top, let it benefit instead the middle and lower classes.
Let’s eliminate the subsidies towards huge corporations and create tax incentives and grants to small and medium businesses. This isn’t socialism. This is supporting business and innovation. Just in a different way.
Trickle down economics has been the prevailing paradigm for so long, it has become gospel for even those at the bottom. But let’s offer a new paradigm. Instead of Democrats simply reacting to what the right pushes forward, let’s instead go on the offence. Let’s push forth a different idea for the American people, one that will hopefully bring back the people we’ve lost in rural and middle America. Those who’ve lost their farms. Those who toil for Amazon and Walmart. Those who used to work in manufacturing and have lost their livelihoods. Why work for the big faceless corporation when you can work for yourself, or for your neighbor?
I would bet that the first Democrat that runs on this platform will become the next President. Let’s inspire instead of react. All the other things will fall into place if the people are behind us, if we have something to offer rather than something people feel controlled by.
