Russian Losses Over Past 14 Months [1]

My previous diary took a look at average daily Russian troop and equipment losses on a monthly basis from Jan 2024 through Feb 2025. The first thing to note is that Russian troop losses were substantially lower in Feb than they had been during the preceding Nov-Jan, though still higher any month prior to last Oct. This is the opposite of the trend we saw last year when average daily losses were still increasing substantially each month from late 2023 through Feb/Mar 2024.
OTOH, Russian equipment losses are an entirely different matter. While AFV losses are only somewhat higher than they had been in Jan, they’re still nowhere near the peaks reached last Oct/Nov. Tank losses though were dramatically higher in Feb than Jan, and were close to 2024’s peak in May (but still nowhere the slaughter fest recorded in the opening weeks of the invasion). And artillery losses were absolutely staggering — nearly 2.5 times the rate recorded in Dec, and equaling the previous peak from Jul/Aug of last year.
Meanwhile, noncombat vehicle and UAV losses continue to skyrocket — nearly 74% higher for the former compared to Dec, and nearly 3 times that for the latter. This is clear evidence that the war is becoming increasingly dominated by drones, and Ukraine’s evident superiority in this newest combat branch is allowing them to rack up ever higher totals of Russian equipment, particularly well behind the current line of contact.
