Trump: Haunted by Ghosts [1]

Trump has a fearful and complex relationship with ghosts. This goes back some years. At a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on October 16, 2016, Trump rally, he stated, “People who died 10 years ago are still voting” (Source: Dead people voting). And he was not talking about one or two. He suggested that 1.8 million dead people would vote for “somebody else.” He further clarified to CNN, “Dead people generally vote for Democrats rather than Republicans.” (Source: Vote for Democrats.)
In 2020, Trump complained about “Dead people. So dead people voted, and I think the number is close to 5,000 people. And they went to obituaries. They went to all sorts of methods to come up with an accurate number, and a minimum is close to about 5,000 voters.” He added that “a tremendous number of dead people” voted in Michigan, stating, “I think it was … 18,000. Some unbelievably high number, much higher than yours, you were in the 4-5,000 category.” (Source: Dead people)
Trump’s concern about dead people voting figured prominently in his speech to the MAGA faithful on January 6, 2021. Trump said, “So Pennsylvania was defrauded. Over 8,000 ballots in Pennsylvania were cast by people whose names and dates of birth match individuals who died in 2020 and prior to the election. Think of that. Dead people, lots of dead people, thousands. And some dead people actually requested an application. That bothers me even more.” (Source: January 6)
Damn those uppity dead people. Getting up and voting whenever they please. Enquiring minds want to know why they routinely vote for Democrats instead of Republicans. Do the ghosts know something we don’t?
Has Trump somehow been reliving the 2000 horror movie, “Scary Movie,” when the character Shorty Meeks, played by Marlon Wayans, says, “I see dead people,” a spoof on the 1999 movie “The Sixth Sense.” In this earlier movie, a boy, Cole Sear, shares with a therapist, “I see dead people. They don’t know they’re dead. They’re all around you. They walk around like regular people. They don’t know they’re dead.” Is it okay if you vote if you don’t know you’re dead?
Now Musk and Trump suspect that tens of millions of dead people may be receiving fraudulent payments from the government through Social Security. Voting is one thing, but continuing to get social security checks when you’re dead—that’s outrageous. What are those ghosts going to do with all that money?
Trump even wonders if many federal employees don’t exist. Not ghosts so much as, perhaps, imaginary friends? Still, how do those imaginary friends spend their paychecks?
In Trump’s cabinet meeting on February 26, 2025, Elon Musk asserted that dead people were collecting paychecks. Musk also mentioned non-existent people were also being paid. He must have meant imaginary friends. Still, how do those imaginary friends spend their paychecks? Rep. James Comer, clown-car driver and Chair of the House Oversight Committee, should open an investigation immediately into these ghosts and imaginary friends.
Trump’s obsession with dead voters, ghost employees, and imaginary government beneficiaries reflects a pattern of conspiracy-driven paranoia, shared by Musk, that has shaped his rhetoric for years. His fixation on phantom fraud, rather than addressing real governance challenges, distracts from substantive issues and fuels baseless mistrust in democratic institutions. If ghosts were truly voting and collecting Social Security and federal paychecks, wouldn’t they at least be entitled to some hauntingly good representation?
