TO THE FOLKS ON THE OSCARS [1]

The Oscars are coming. I’ve seen them advertised.
I almost never watch, because I almost never get to movies, and I can’t afford much in the way of streaming services.
If anything interesting happens at the Academy Awards, it will be on the news for days afterwards, so I’ll know all about it without actually having to watch the whole thing.
I’m sure Trump, Musk and company will get their share of tongue lashings from the presenters and recipients, not to mention the MC. I won’t object to that.
But I will ask that all those wealthy, famous, people put their money where their mouths are.
Pay for ads, on TV, on the radio, on the internet. Pay for billboards. Pay for print ads. Get the word out, this is what Trump, Musk and the rest of the MAGA crowd are doing to you. This is what you can do about it.
When the midterms come support progressive candidates, with money as well as endorsements. Pay for ads. Pay for campaign materials. Pay to get the word out.
Donald Trump is destroying American democracy.
Someone needs to make a movie about a post democratic America, where the freedom we take for granted is gone, and the rich can do as they like. Include lots of explosions and chase scenes, and attractive women, in states of undress. We want a large audience, after all. It might not get an Academy Award. Movies like that don’t. But it would get a big audience, and that’s what really matters.
I will be pleased to hear that {Fill this space with the name of a celebrity.} said Donald Trump is a tyrant, and Elon Musk is a fascist. But they’re stating the obvious.
They need to get the word out to the rest of us. The people who thought the government should be run like a business and are just now realizing that that was a bad idea. The people who wanted change and were certain the Trump administration would bring the change they needed.
That is going to cost some money. Movie people are famous for having lots of money. Right now, they need to put some of it where their mouths are, and stop the current madness.
