No One Is freaking Delusional Here. Responding To Trending Diary. [1]

So there’s a diary trending, and it pissed me off enough to respond. It basically says it’s over, we lost, we all need to “arm up” and ends with what I see as the kind of thing one could construe as eliminationist rhetoric:

"It’s us or them. And I’m amazed more people don’t see it."

First off, let me state the obvious: getting yourself a nice rifle or handgun isn’t going to do much when the fucking tanks, helicopters, and infantry come marching in. If it gets to that point, we’re pretty fucked. And as much as MAGA pisses me off (seriously, I dream nightly of running around smacking the shit out of everyone who voted for this), it is not “us or them.” We’re all fucked if it gets to that point.

And by the way, I come from a family of gun owners, and I am not a pacifist. I grew up in a semi-rough neighborhood where I learned the best way to get a bully to leave you alone is to punch him in the nose.

but, on the point of arming ourselves—one thing I’m supremely confident in: if it ever gets to a place where an armed rebellion is the only option, the one thing I am more confident of than anything in the world is that in the United States of America, I can get a gun if I fucking need it. Trust me, arming ourselves is not a problem we will have.

However, before we jump to civil war, can we give the courts, mass protests, and boycotts the ol’ college try? maybe even vote and organize?

The diary I referenced, among other things, called it delusional to point out that right-wingers are calling right-wing talk shows to complain. Why? That is HUGE. Trump’s popularity is sinking like the Titanic. Why? Because people who don’t pay close attention are feeling the effects of his leadership—and they aren’t good. It means the things he is doing are even starting to turn some of his base. It’s a crack, but in every crack there is hope.

Yes, these people are in a cult. Yes these people have voted for evil, but not all of them are evil, some are misguided and a break in their relationship to the cult is good for the country. celebrate and report. We need hope.

I’d also point out that noncooperation is a much more effective strategy than arming up. We are half the country, and they’re going to have a hell of a time ruling us if we don’t cooperate. The Civil Rights Movement gained a lot more traction through nonviolence and non cooperation. Gandhi got the British to leave India through non violence and non cooperation. Heck, non violent, protests even worked in Nazi Germany.

For example in 1943, a nonviolent demonstration by the non-Jewish (Aryan) wives of Jewish men who had been arrested in Berlin for deportation broke out. Over several days, hundreds of women gathered outside the Rosenstrasse detention center, to demand the release of their husbands. and guess what? it worked! in 1943! after Hitler had been in power for a decade.

Yet, Trump is back in power for 30 days and already this guy, is yelling game over like Bill Paxton in Aliens.

Look, everyone here knows we are in the fight of our lives. No one is sitting around singing "Kumbaya" right now. But to act as though all hope is gone? That’s the worst crap I’ve seen on here since Trump was elected, and I urge you not to give in to that sentiment. The fight is ongoing, and what we’re doing is making a difference. So I urge you to keep fighting but in ways that are effective. Don’t just concede we’ve lost and start stockpiling guns or whatever the point of that diary was. it is nonsense.
