J.B. Pritzker On Why "They" Ignored It [1]

I’m writing this at 1:45 A.M. on Thursday, an inauspicious time and day for diaries here. But I just did one of my favorite Little Old Lady tricks, the one where you eat your dinner and take a nap and get half your nightly sleep. So I nodded off with a video cued up. [Cued is for when it’s one person or thing; queued is for more than one person or thing lined up. Just so’s y’all knows. You can’t have a lineup with only one thing in it. The danger of homonyms, as Emo Philips said.]
So I wake up, all comfy and rested, and decide hey, get some decaf and watch the vid and turn in for real.
Well, Gov. Pritzker woke me up but good. He is telling Nicole Wallace, after reminding the good people of Illinois [and the not-so-good people, and the outright villains, because they all need to hear it] that the Nazis dismantled their constitutional democracy about as fast back then as Elon and the Scriptkiddies are trying to destroy ours now.
Two things from the video stood out to me.
First, Gov. Pritzker has a quite plausible explanation for why “they” ignored “us” as we warned about the threat to democracy. And what he says, it sounds like he seriously means. And it makes sense, and as an explanation it’s a hell of a lot better than “because they’re all degenerate evil monsters being stupid on purpose just to annoy us, and we should hate them and wish them all excruciating, painful, prolonged deaths”, even though that second explanation seems to be very popular with some folks.
Second, Gov. Pritzer is a fourth- or fifth-generation Ukrainian-American. Fifth if his great-grandfather was born, as well as educated, here, since his great-great grandparents emigrated. And also he is Jewish. I couldn’t help thinking of another Jewish Ukrainian who impresses the hell out of me, that Zelenskyy guy.
Anyway, listen to Gov. Pritzker. And think along with me about Ukrainian Jewish Presidents we have known.
I’ve cued this up [in a queue, even; see above] to drop at 10:30. I may or may not be online then, but I’ll check in sometime before lunch, God willin’ and the creek don’t rise.
