Top Comments: Small Acts of Creative Resistance [1]

The news these days seems endlessly grim, often leaving me filled with despair as to what one person can do. While there are some mundane answers to this (pick an issue, and put your time & energy into it), three small acts of resistance this week are giving me life.

But first, a word from our sponsor!

Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailboxby 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!

Anti-trans politicians seem to be in a competition to come up with the most hateful, nasty way to announce their genital obsession. The state of Texas is now trying to sue the NCAA, the largest college sports organization, demanding that they “screen the sex of student athletes,” as if this was not a totally unhinged thing to demand.

These official-looking signs suddenly appeared in restrooms in the Dallas-Fort Worth airport:

x Sounds like these will be real soon enough — Feminist Proper Gander (@dappergander.bsky.social) 2025-02-22T02:18:56.534Z

The best part: no matter what Dan Patrick’s office tries to tell them, some people are going to believe there really are “Electronic Genital Verification” cameras. It’s certainly more believable than half the stories on Fox “news.” And Dan Patrick absolutely deserves the flood of calls he’s going to get.

Meanwhile, management at HUD might be regretting their decision to demand that staff return to the office:

x This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source. Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs. — Marisa Kabas (@marisakabas.bsky.social) 2025-02-24T14:51:30.171Z

No comment yet from either half of the Mump duo, but you know TFG is seething at the accuracy,

Finally, there’s Musk’s fake agency emailing all federal employees with the demand that they list 5 accomplishments from the previous week, under threat of firing.

Activists took to the Reddit page for 50501—which stands for 50 protests, 50 states, one day—to share the email address provided in the OPM email ([email protected]), with the goal of “flood[ing] the servers” with spam. Nearly 500 comments have poured in on one Reddit thread, with users sharing that they were signing up the email address for erectile dysfunction products, sex shop email lists, and hair plug advertisements. “I spent a while signing him up for support groups for men with botched penile implants,” one user wrote. “Be careful though with what email you use! A throwaway is best and definitely nothing associated with your professional/work lives,” another user wrote.

(And if you missed brillig’s diary on Monday with some of the creative responses, trust me, you must see it.)

It would be very wrong to participate in flooding that email box, of course. Once again, the email address is [email protected].

On to Top Comments!

From RichM:

Sidnora has the perfect response to MTG’s attack on federal workers.

From fellow Top Commenteer cohenzee:

StewartM gives us an excellent reason why Congress is so dysfunctional in my TC diary from last night on Congress being the “most co-equal branch of government.”
