Trump Team Weighs Pulling Funds for Moderna Bird Flu Vaccine (gift link)
US health officials are reevaluating a $590 million contract for bird flu shots that the Biden administration awarded to Moderna Inc., people familiar with the matter said. The review is part of a government push to examine spending on messenger RNA-based vaccines, the technology that powered Moderna’s Covid vaccine. The bird flu shot contract was awarded to Moderna in the Biden administration’s final days, sending the company’s stock up 13% in the two days following the Jan. 17 announcement.
Given that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr has a well known anti-vaccine stance, I guess that it’s no surprise that being ant-vaccine might become the official policy of the United States government. With regards to Kennedy, we got this from him today…
RFK Jr. Has Horrific Response to Measles Death
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s comments reveal the terrifying new normal.
An unvaccinated child in west Texas died of measles on Wednesday, marking the first time that someone has died from the viral illness in the U.S. in a decade. So far, 18 people have been hospitalized for the disease around Lubbock, Texas, where a measles outbreak has infected at least 124 people, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. Most of those infected are children…. But over in Washington, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. seemed relatively unconcerned by the spread of the disease. “It’s not unusual,” Kennedy said of the contagion, when pressed by reporters. “We have measles outbreaks every year.”
He really doesn’t seem to be taking this outbreak very seriously. Of course, it is the unvaccinated who have been the casualties here.
It’s hard not to think that the health policies of this administration will lead to a very large number of avoidable deaths. If a bird-flu pandemic in humans happens in earnest, it will be faced by the most incompetent and misguided group of administrators possible and agencies that have be maliciously and stupidly crippled.

Bird flu is rampaging among chickens and cattle, while Trump and Musk gut the agencies responsible for stopping it.
Dark times ahead on this front seem inevitable.
