Diabetes News, Mostly from Bluesky [1]

I told you last week about making a Bluesky List of the best sources on real diabetes research. Today we get the full use of that list, as you can see below. A simple search on “diabetes” continues to reveal the nastiest denialism and obstruction from the current maladministration, along with a lot of personal accounts of diabetes sufferers.
Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell were kvelling last night over how wonderful Bluesky is. Lawrence says that he posts things on Bluesky so the he can find them again in his profile. I, of course, make Lists and Feeds so that everything I want to find again is right there. So yesterday I turned my Diabetes Research List into a Feed. Not everything there is appropriate for this DK story series, but the hit rate is quite high, much better than basic Google searching.

Denial and Obstruction
x Medicaid is my patients getting regular mammograms instead of advanced breast cancer. It's my patients managing their diabetes instead of going blind. It's people being able to be productive members of society so they can climb out of poverty. Congress is hearing the message: Don't Cut Our Medicaid! — Alice T. Chen, MD (@dralicechen.bsky.social) February 25, 2025 at 12:52 PM
Bluesky, can’t embed. Minnesota Star Tribune, paywalled.
From Opinion: Why are Republican states trying to overturn a pillar of disability rights?
They may not be successful in repealing Section 504 as part of the attack on treating gender dysphoria, but it begs the question of what they might come for next.
x @rweingarten.bsky.social: How’d we get to the point where we have to say that fighting cancer and diabetes and Alzheimer’s isn’t a partisan fight? All this is, is just cruel - and it’s intended to make us stop fighting. But we’re not gonna stop fighting. @AFTHigherEd.bsky.social @aaup.bsky.social
