I'm not a fan of Carville - he's one of those who always has an opinion that gets a lot of press, and it's usually wrong. Regarding James Carville’s Op-Ed in the NY Times today- The Best Thing Democrats Can Do in This Moment. I'm not a fan of Carville - he's one of those who always has an opinion that gets a lot of press, and it's usually wrong.
His "play dead" strategy here would be the right one, if I thought the Democrats actually had a brilliant plan up their sleeve that they would pull out at the moment the Republicans implode - and were master communicators who would all hit just the right notes with the American people that would drive them to pull the "D" levers at the mid-terms and in 2028.
The problem is, they don't have a plan. And Democrats may as well be called the "DemoCats" as far as they are all on-message and herding in the same direction - which they never are.
We are in an unprecedented time - well, not unprecedented (see Germany, 1939) - but the response to tyranny and precursors to authoritarianism is not to shut up and watch while the Kristallnacht winds up for a replay.
Democrats actually had a copy of the Project 2025 plan IN THEIR HANDS last Fall before the election, and yet every move Trump and his minions make is like a surprise left hook to the jaw to the current crop of Dems in charge.
How is it possible they didn't have a plan ready to IMMEDIATELY take every one of these Executive Orders to court before the ink was dry? Why is it that they have no voice, leader, or spokesperson out front condemning every anti-American and anti-Democratic move this fascistic gallery of rogues makes? How is it possible that ANY of these Cabinet members got ANY Democratic votes for confirmation?
The daily attacks on our democracy are largely met with roaring silence - or ridiculous and idiotic messaging about the price of eggs. Democracy will not die in Darkness - it will die at a kitchen table surrounded by Democrats and their consultants trying to figure out what to do and agree on a message and a platform.
Oh, but the MAGA Republicans DO have a plan, and they are viciously and heartlessly putting it into action. And they have appropriated talking heads directly from Fox and put them in charge of virtually every department - you can bet they will all be singing the same tune so much and so loudly you might even start to believe some of the BS they'll be slinging.
The only on-message people who are fighting to defend the Constitution and rule of law in this country are a handful Democrats like Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut and true patriots like Republicans Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney.
So, no, Mr. Carville - I don't think now is the time to sit down and shut up.
Now is the time to speak up and shout at the top of your lungs for the fundamentals of what the United States has and should always stand up for:
Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
They are already zip-tying people and dragging them away for doing just that.
