Rebecca Kutler, The AXE Woman For MSNBC. Daily Mail Calls Her "Ruthless." Stupid Is What I Say. [1]

I’ve often used the Keith Olbermann dismissive term for MSNBC management as suits, but I think you all need at least one name and face to remember as driving MSNBC further into the ratings toilet. Presenting Rebecca Kutler! She’s the person who made the decision to shitcan the following people at MSNBC:

Now, Lestor Holt was at NBC News, so Kutler didn’t make him quit. But NBC is still the parent company of MSNBC, so you get the idea of what Kutler is up to here, especially since she won’t dump rating loser “Morning Joe.”

And that’s the most offensive part of all of this. The above people fought hard against Trump, while ass kissers Joe and Mika groveled. And Joy Reid was one of the best to fight againt Trump.

Somehow, throwing most of the POC off the airwaves is supposed to lift ratings at MSNBC. Call me crazy, but this looks more like Trump’s Jihad against DEI than a ratings boost. How is that supposed to play to liberal viewers of MSNBC?

I know it makes me continue to NOT watch MSNBC. I only tuned in to watch Joy Reid and Lawrence O’Donnell. Now, Kutler gives me the middle finger by firing Reid.

As to how smart or capable Kutler is, I’ll let the Daily Mail describe who she is and where she has worked before coming to MSNBC:

Yes, the headline certainly grabbed my attention.

However, the Daily Mail article has a section in it that is very confusing to me.

Since taking charge, Kutler has successfully stabilized the network's ratings following a major post-election decline. The recovery has been largely attributed to the network's star anchor Rachel Maddow making regular primetime appearances during Trump's first 100 days back in office. Most recently as president, Kutler canceled Joy Reid's evening show amid the network's plummeting ratings.

Huh? If the ratings have “stabilized,” how are those same network ratings “plummeting”? Sounds like this article needed some more editing to me.

But this where it gets into Kutler’s sterling background:

She joined MSNBC in 2022 after a 12-year stint at CNN, where she climbed from executive producer on shows like Inside Politics with John King to senior vice president. Kutler was previously at CNN as programming chief for CNN+, the ill-fated streaming service that crashed and burned during AT&T's handover to Warner Bros. Discovery

So Kutler’s from CNN. Ugh. And while she was there, Kutler was in charge of CNN+ that “crashed and burned”!

Does that inspire confidence in you all of her managerial abilities?

The long and short of this is that I think Kutler is typical of the “suits.” She’s stupid and cannot see the landscape around her. MSNBC needs to expands it audience and outreach. And that doesn’t mean turning MSNBC into Fox lite.

CNN’s already doing that and failing spectacularly.

This is another sign from the cosmos that progressives need to develop and nurture independent news outlets. I don’t think that MSNBC is going to survive in the long run, certainly not with people like Kutler in management positions. And that is sad and infuriating all at once.
