An excellent article that I encourage people to read; I’m concerned not many people know about this.
While many Democrats seem to be willing to bow to the oligarchy, and to the GOP’s extreme cabinet nominations, Bernie has a plan that might actually work to stop some of the more draconian measures, such as canceling medicaid. And while many Republicans are fleeing from their constituents, or slandering them with indefensible accusations, voters in districts that barely voted Republican seem to be looking for something better, in very large numbers.
The truth is it would only take a couple of defections from the GOP — provided no Democrats vote the wrong way — for bills killing medicaid and the like to fail. This would of course put swing district Republicans in a bind: face the wrath of the voters (in a year and a half, if they are up for re-election then), or that of the orange menace. And of course, if this strategy doesn’t work, Democrats would need to be prepared to follow through on election day. Common wisdom is that such districts need a “moderate” Democrat to wrest them from Republican control. Bernie is quite the opposite of that, and he seems to be enjoying successes that such moderates are unlikely to be able to replicate.
