West Texas measles outbreak may soon expand to a major city. [1]

I have a disconcerting post just forwarded to me by my son.

@joaquincastrotx.bsky.social

Sorry, I’ve not been able to make a link here, or maybe it will come up as one when I hit “publish” for this post. Don’t know. My computer skills suck.

What it says is that last night local politician Joaquin Castro posted a notice on his Bluesky account that someone from the west Texas area where the measles outbreak originated came to San Antonio on Feb. 15th. Whoever it was apparently visited several of the local tourist hot spots and the warning is for locals who were at those spots at those times to be watching for symptoms. No reported cases yet, but a very worrying public notice.

It is not encouraging that JFK is the head guy in charge of controlling this outbreak. His past dealings with such events elsewhere have not been stellar successes to say the least. If it doesn’t happen here, with the number of measles cases nearing 100 this past week, it seems inevitable that it will spread to some metropolitan area soon.

And the number of idiots who are not vaccinated (and won’t be) is at a higher level here than almost any other state in the country. The good news is that if they received both measles vaccinations in childhood then they are still protected, whether they believe in vaccines or not. Whether it was properly administered or not, almost everyone back then got one, because it was a time when Scientists ran our health agencies, not conspiracy spewing idiots who actively encourage others not to get them.
