Trump celebrates 'conservative' win in Germany. They tell him to feck off. [1]

Trump's VP and owner (JD Vance and Elon Musk) attempted to pump up the fortunes of the neo-Nazi AfD party before Sunday's national election. Despite their cheerleading, the far-right in Germany scored only 20.8% of the vote. Granted, it was double their 2021 showing. However, 4 out of 5 German voters still said "nein" to AfD’s xenophobic and racist seductions.

CDU, the center-right 'conservative' party, was the election's top vote-getter with 28.6%. In American terms, the never-Trump Republicans beat the MAGAs. Adding to the shutout of the AfD, CDU has ruled out any coalition involving the neo-Nazis. It is as if the never-Trump Republicans needed a partner to rule — and picked a centrist Democratic party.

The bottom line is that the German equivalent of MAGA got much attention but no actual power.

This defeat of his natural allies did not stop America's asinine autocrat from celebrating the CDU's win. Even if Trump’s celebration amounted to no more than boilerplate stupidity serving as an amuse bouche for the main course — another pathetically needy self-congratulation by the fragile fascist. The bald-faced liar went to his go-to, Truth Social, to proclaim in all-caps (I have transcribed his bombast in regular lettering as I am a grown-up):

"Looks like the conservative party in Germany has won the very big and highly anticipated election. Much like the USA, the people of Germany got tired of the no common sense agenda especially on energy and immigration, that has prevailed for so many years. This is a great day for Germany, and the United states of America under the leadership of a gentleman named Donald J. Trump — Congratulations to all. Many more victories to follow."

Here's the puerile version:

Does Trump know the German MAGAs lost? And they did so because the German electorate looked at AfD's Trump-like policies and overwhelmingly said, "No thanks"? He probably does. But the lizard-brained savant knows that his base, playing 'follow the leader,' will eagerly swallow his inference that Germany voted for a Teutonic version of MAGA (Mach Deutschland wieder großartig, MDWG?).

Germany's prospective new Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, is not reciprocating the love. Unlike Trump, he respects the truth. In a post-victory speech, Merz addressed America's current political horror scape. He is not a fan. He called for Europe to seek "independence from the USA" and lashed out at what he described as "ultimately outrageous" rhetoric coming from Trump and his administration.

Hearing that, I expect that Trump's esteem for the land of his forefathers will be as brief as his ability to keep it up.

Merz was clear he places no stock in Trump. He said:

"For me, the absolute priority will be to strengthen Europe as quickly as possible so that we can achieve real independence from the USA step by step. I never thought I would have to say something like this on a television program. But after Donald Trump's statements last week at the latest, it is clear that the Americans, at least this part of the Americans, this administration, are largely indifferent to the fate of Europe."

I lived in England as a boy. The common sentiment in Europe then was "Yankee go home." However, underpinning that apparent antipathy was a deep love and respect for America itself. People dreamed of living there. Today, the 'Yankee go home' philosophy is still prevalent. But gone is the high regard foreigners had once held for the country.
