As everyone on this site knows, Elmo M is cosplaying an off-the-rails Human Resources Manager tasked with reducing personnel and in the process destroying the lives of tens of thousands of federal employees. His latest stupid act was to declare in an email to those federal employees not yet fired or put on leave:
Subj: “What did you do last week?” “Please reply to this email with approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished this week and cc your manager,” The message stated employees had until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, to reply.
There was pushback to this from some departments and a ridiculous call for compliance by the top-ranking Dem on the House Oversight Committee. In the interest of malicious compliance (NOT of the Send Spoofed Emails To The Email Elmo Provided type, because that isn’t my style), I thought we here at Top Comments could share Five Things We Did This Week. Here’s my five out of many:
1. I attended a social meetup with my local City Democratic Committee. While our business meeting is tomorrow, we want to give folks a place to gather and talk informally with likeminded city residents. So we choose a local restaurant, and the Committee buys appetizers while attendees are responsible for their own beverages, and we talk for a while. This meeting we gravitated towards brainstorming the best organizations to donate to, how we’re contacting our (all-D electeds), and our approaches to conversations with those who didn’t vote for Harris and now are in the FO phase of FAFO.
2. I volunteered to be part of the large group of folks who read through the many, MANY submissions for Netroots Nation 2025 panels and suggest which I’d advance. If you have an idea to submit, the submission window closes March 5th.
3. I made time to sleep in on Saturday and watch a movie with Mr. Brillig that evening (Conclave, we really enjoyed it!). We also managed to visit a favorite BBQ place for lunch yesterday. Resting up and finding joy IS part of resistance. We cannot be stressed, angry and in motion all the time, without burning out.
4. I did my best to provide accurate news and info to my connections on social media. I don’t go for outrage memes or the kind of posts that emulate the one-sentence-and-a-link things that some folks pass off as “diaries” here; I try to provide reputable links and my thoughts on the information therein. I also chime in when someone posts misinformation that while we WANT to believe it, simply isn’t true. We abhor mis/disinformation on their part, we have to uphold credibility on ours.
5. I may have watched multiple times the United States Army Chorus performance of the Les Miserables Epilogue as they entered the White House National Governors Association Dinner. Yes, I’m aware this probably wasn’t the act of resistance we would hope, given the song apparently is a favorite of the Orange One. But I’m going to live in denial a bit and relish the lyrics:
Do you hear the people sing? / Lost in the valley of the night / It is the music of a people who are climbing to the light / For the wretched of the earth / There is a flame that never dies / Even the darkest nights will end and the sun will rise
They will live again in freedom in the garden of the lord / They will walk behind the ploughshare / They will put away the sword / The chain will be broken and all men will have their reward!
Will you join in our crusade? / Who will be strong and stand with me? / Somewhere beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see? / Do you hear the people sing? / Say, do you hear the distant drums? / It is the future that they bring when tomorrow comes! / One Day More!
