Don’t Tesla Shame Me, Bro [1]

So, the other day, some guy in a BMW convertible (yes, in Burbank—it’s important) glanced at me and asked aggressively, "You're going to be selling your Tesla, aren't you?" I was stunned. I might’ve muttered a “go f*** yourself,” but seriously? Who does this guy think drives Teslas? It’s not the MAGA crowd lining up for EVs. If anything, it’s people like me—environmentally conscious, progressive, and committed to cutting emissions.
I’ve been driving Teslas since 2016—not just because they’re great cars, but because I believe in reducing my carbon footprint and putting my money into something that doesn’t fund the fossil fuel industry. Over the years, I’ve had two Model S’s, a Performance Model 3, and now a Model Y (with a brief, one-year stint in a Rivian truck).
My hot take: I can’t stomach Elon Musk, but I LOVE electric cars.
Tesla, for all its flaws, still makes the best EVs in terms of value and reliability—trust me, I’ve test-driven every other option out there. But would I buy another one, knowing what I know now about Musk? Probably not. That said, these ideological purity tests are what ruin progress—especially for my Democratic party so can we please just stop it?
If I’m going to get shamed for driving a Tesla, then let’s keep it consistent. Shouldn’t we also be calling out people driving German cars like BMW, VW, and Mercedes, considering their Nazi-era histories? Hell, even Ford, whose founder was a known racist? The list could go on and on.
At the end of the day, we need to separate the product from the person and focus on the bigger picture. Otherwise, we’re just eating each other’s faces off.
