ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE Suffers Because of Trump's Specious Self-Serving Geopolitical Fantasy [1]

On United States Presidential Inauguration Day 2025 Donald John Trump said this:

“My proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and a unifier” www.hindustantimes.com/...

In any other historical time and from any other previous U.S. President that statement would not only be laudable but would also engender a sigh of relief from all corners of the globe. “AMERICA is still the America that we know”… they will, with practiced certitude, re-affirm to themselves that the world is safer when America re-affirms it’s own long standing role in the world as protector of liberty and peace.

Not this time. Because the world has since November 5th, 2024 held it’s collective breath unsure what the future will bring with the re-election of Trump. They have come to know that words coming from Trump really do not mean much and if they do, they are purely self-congratulatory and self-serving. It did not take long for the world to once again see the truism of that uncomfortable knowledge of Trump. The tell was when he said he will end the Russo-Ukrainian War on Day 1 back in the presidency. A collective dubious “yeah right” echoed across the world. We all knew it was just another one of the serial hyperboles completely untethered from reality.

In just a few days past a month since re-entering the White House, Trump’s scatter-shot, pin-balling pronouncements on the major underpinnings of the global order has once again set the world aboil. First by pretending that he will throw Putin and the Russians under the bus if they do not quickly come to terms to end their genocidal war against Ukraine. Then after a reported series of phone calls with Putin, he quickly pivoted to praising Putin, holding him blameless for his invasion of Ukraine and claiming that it was rather Ukrainian President Zelensky who provoked the war. The whole world knows that by the time Zelensky was sworn into office as president of Ukraine after a land slide victory over billionaire Petro Poroshenko in 2019, Russia had already started hostilities by invading Crimea and suborning rebellion in the Ukrainian Donbas region in 2014 (5 whole years earlier!!!). Further, Trump claimed that the United States had spent $500 billion on Ukraine’s futile war and that Ukraine must repay America by handing over all of its as yet undeveloped rare earth and mineral deposits. End of discussion. Just sign the paper. Like right now. Or else!

Normally, such casuistry accompanied by inflammatory public noise-making and puerile threats is not to be expected from the halls of the most powerful nation on earth. But here we are. In the murky turpid swamps of the MAGAsphere, such hyper-bloviating ... factual or not is pure heart-warming feed chum for the bottom-feeding salivating lemmings dwelling therein. But Zelensky’s Ukraine and Europe have thankfully stood up and made it known that Trump’s treatment of Ukraine and by extension America’s longstanding NATO allies is UNACCEPTABLE. And that they will push back vigorously. The Unspoken implication being that if need be, Europe will summon its latent military, economic and geopolitical potential to go forward without the United State’s post WWII “protective umbrella” in order to confront Putin and Russia. Trump siding with Putin’s revanchist Russia and regurgitating baleful Putinist talking points against democratic Europe is unequivocally a bridge too far. The message was clearly and publicly delivered by French President Emmanuel Macron to a clearly discomfited Trump today at the White House. Bravo Macron! Bravo Europa!

But why the sudden volte-face away from longstanding U.S. geopolitical policy by Trump? Aside from his own well-known penchant to Russophilia, this recent reversal is so shocking and destabilizing on so many levels. Decades of hard work by America and its worldwide allies have seemingly been overturned with nary a thought to the potential deep fracturing of America’s relations with its friends. While the ever obsequious MAGAsphere in its usual self-delusion is delighted and claiming all of this mess is a “show of strength” by Trump on behalf of America, cooler heads see the ominous portents of trouble ahead.

Some claim that Trump’s actions are actuated by a real desire to try and pull Russia away from China’s growing global influence. That by cozying up to Putin and Russia, America will be able to put a wedge between the two and thereby attenuate China’s global influence. The Wall Street Journal makes just such an argument based on a spurious supposedly “leaked” Russian official document purported to indicate Putin offering to pull back on Russia’s treaty-bound relationship with China(OMG, really, Wall Street Journal? Ever heard of Russian maskirovka?):

But what sane policy is it that would cause America to disillusion and essentially cast aside its decades long investment of blood and treasure in alliance-building and protection of global democracy in pursuit of a quixotic venture to achieve a policy that only feeds Trump’s out-sized ego and pursuit of his febrile desire for:

“My proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and a unifier”

And must Ukraine, which has stood heroically in the breach against the greatest military threat to democracy in our time , be sacrificed to feed this egotistical and self-aggrandizing delusion?

ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE will deftly navigate the dangerous delusional shoals of Trumpism and gain its Forever Freedom from a revanchist Putinist Russia.
