Proposal for a New Bill [1]

My high school history teacher told our class this tale about George Washington. When serving as commander of the Continental Army, the general insisted he be paid no salary. Instead, he asked the Continental Congress that they simply pay his expenses. Evidently, the father of our country had expensive tastes in wine, food, and accommodations, and the expenses charged to his account grew alarmingly. When the war ended and the general retired to Mt. Vernon, congressional accountants breathed a sigh of relief.
When George ascended to the presidency, he proposed once again, “Oh, I need no salary. Just give me an expense account.”
The new Congress made of many people from the original one, replied, “No. You will get a salary.”
News of the many days Donald T has spent golfing since the inauguration and the excessive costs associated with his protection on these jaunts, put me in mind of that possibly apocryphal Washington anecdote.
What if Congress proposed a bill to limit the cost to the taxpayers of presidential golf junkets to $1 million annually? The number doesn't really matter — $2 million, $5 million, $10 million. Based on the news reports, Donnie will burn through the funds in no time.
While Johnson is Speaker, the bill will get buried, but assuming the normal swing in the House expected during an off year election, Speaker Jeffries could bless the bill toward passage.
Passage in the Senate is less assured, but political spectacle is actually the point rather than passage. Imagine how fun it would be to have a president threaten to veto a bill that restricts his “right to play golf.” Imagine Republican congress folk voting against a bill to save milions of taxpayer dollars in order to protect Trump's golf game.
The campaign ads and political cartoons nearly write themselves.
Only proviso: the longer Trump spends golfing, the less time he has to spend dreaming up horrid schemes, composing mad and offensive tweets, and doing stupid things in the Oval Office.
