The New York Times is reporting that MSNBC’s new president Rebecca Cutler is aiming to remake the lineup in order to increase viewership. According to the article, Joy Reid’s 7:00 pm show has been cancelled and her last appearance will be sometime next week. Her show will be replaced by The Weekend anchors Symone Sanders, Michael Steele and Alicia Menendez. No word on whether their show on the weekend will be replaced with something else.
Also, reported is Alex Wagner will not be returning after Rachel Maddow’s 100-day stint is over. That spot will likely be taken by Jen Psaki.
Other mentions for replacement hosts with new shows are Eugene Daniels and Melissa Murray. No mention of which existing shows are on the chopping block to make room for these folks.
Personally, I don’t think any of this will increase viewership, just the opposite. While I like most of the names mentioned in general, and I enjoy and watch The Weekend when I can, I never miss Joy Reid’s show. Notably, at least in my opinion, other than The Weekend hosts, the replacement hosts are bland and definitely don’t have the fire we need right now to keep up the good fight.
I swear these network brass have no clue who their audiences are. Just my opinion.
