Inclusion vs Hate and Cruelty [1]

It worries me that discussions on KOS often turn bitter, with the very real pain that we are feeling directed inward at ourselves and also at folks who a generation ago were part of the natural base of the Democratic Party. We quickly turn from the issue at hand, which is the failure of the Rethugs to care anything at all about their actual constituents, relying on a list of lies and dog-whistles to manipulate and build fear. Maybe we should put aside some of the bitterness and see if we can’t figure out ways to work together for a change and focus on fighting against the fascist destruction of our Republic.

The present day Thug party is filled with people who believe in an utopian totalitarian ideology, and like all totalitarians, whether they be compared to Nazis, Maoists, or Stalinists, they end up believing that the end justifies the means. Today’s American totalitarians believe in the creation of a white, fundamentalist, nationalist imagined utopia. Any suffering, including Gestapo style suppression of free speech, concentration camps, gulags, and outright murder will come to be seen as justified.

Their goal is to burn, with great pain and suffering, this new perfect world into being. My friends, these assholes are dangerous as a viper. We can either get our shit together, or get ready to suffer. If we are really serious about beating them, then we are going to need all the help we can muster.

There is only one way to win this fight and it is with a broad based majority — not 51% but a real unstoppable one. To create this, it must include the working class, dirty fingernails and all. If the Democrats think they can continue to ignore this they will continue to lose. Farmers and the rural poor, deer rifles included, must be part of this. Hispanics who are conservative on social issues must be part of this. LGBT folks who want to be part of this (but aren’t really) need to be part of this. Hard working union members, also. And Black people once and for all need to start feeling that they too are part of the larger project to make this country a place for everybody.

The persistent racism that gives so much power to these fascists must be addressed openly and the pattern of shying away from even talking about subjects like police violence, and racial economic unfairness must change. There are too many white Americans that are deeply, even irredeemably bigoted. However, we have to believe that many are waiting for a message of inclusion and equity. The Founding Fathers (in spite of the fact that half of them owned slaves) had it right when, in spite of the less than equal times they lived in, said: All men are created equal and are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights...
