I am also “incandescent with rage” [1]

Along with Truth Matters’ Martin McSweeney, who a few days ago declared he was “incandescent with rage” following JD Vance’s treacherous besmirching and vilification of our European allies, I, too, am incandescent with rage, though my response was triggered by something simpler.

I'm here at one of the hotels at Berlin-Brandenburg airport. Thanks to an unusual confluence of circumstances, I am very lucky to have the opportunity to sing one (very likely) last concert tonight in the chamber music hall of the Philharmonie with the Berliner Konzert Chor , the choir I sang with for several years before the pandemic. After our dress rehearsal yesterday, I schlepped my carry-on here and retrieved my very heavy to-be-checked bag from a luggage storage service so I’d have time to repack everything, as I will be getting back after the concert very late tonight and my first flight to Frankfurt (and thence back to the USA) is very early tomorrow morning.

Anyway, this morning I saw the cleaning service cart in the hallway and helped myself to two packets of herbal tea, since I'd drunk what I'd had and had requested no cleaning service today. A little later, I saw the cleaning lady and tried to tell her what I'd done (in German), but she smiled, shook her head, pointed to herself, and said "Ukraine." I couldn't help it, I said (with tears in my eyes), "Sorry for Trump" — which she understood, and we hugged.
