Elon Musk fired my son [1]

Well, we pretty much knew it was coming, it doesn’t make it any easier. Now see….my son is almost 40 and lives at home, he made the mistake of joining the army. I asked him not to, I begged. Didn’t work.
My father was in the military, he joined the navy. Why? Because in Wheelwright Kentucky you worked in the mines or you escaped. His father worked in the mines, eventually he was crushed in a mine collapse in a 4 foot tall tunnel. It took the other miners a hell of long time to dig him free using shovels, hands….whatever they could use. They put him on a bed in the company clinic. They didn’t even clean him up as they figured he was dying anyway.
He didn’t die. After 3 days my grandmother demanded they treat him and clean him up. He survived, he had to walk with two canes and leg braces after that, but he was there. I still remember the hateful looks drew when we went out (before handicap access) when he had to sit to drag himself up steps. The looks of disgust and utter contempt, yeah, I understood how the nazi regime got there.
So dad went off on the aircraft carrier Lexington and only came back to the hollers to visit his family and friends. On one visit he proposed to my mother (don’t ask me why, maybe he didn’t realize until death meant your whole life.) who said yes but he had to leave the Navy. So dad drove a coal truck for a while. Then he told mom he was joining the army and she could go with or go to hell. After that? Well, I was born in DC, my brother in Germany so yeah she went with dad.
We got around a lot Belgium, Germany, Colorado, California….. we saw a lot of the world. We still went back to visit the grandparents, I knew to never live there if I could help it. It’s a big beautiful world and the hollers were without coal and a dead end.
When I got older I also married a soldier, and got back out on the road. We traveled had great adventures and two kids. My hope was they would stay civilian, I knew the oldest was already thinking army. By the time of Cheney and his war for profit scheme I had tried everything I could think of but my eldest joined the military. Military intelligence same as his dad. It wasn’t a year before he got sent off to Afghanistan the first time. He came home Ok the first time, during his second tour…he called me and we were talking and he said “oh shit” and this was followed by an explosion and the phone went dead.
The next two hours of my life I hope to never experience again. He called back, yes it was a suicide bomber, he had to help gather the….parts…to try an ID them before he could call back. That time he came home…..stressed. The last tour, it went really, really badly. He was sent more or less to Pakistan, who felt they were at war with the Americans and lobbed bombs, missiles and bullets. The commander demanded all the soldiers become good “christians” and punished and harassed anyone declined to do so.
He tormented my son and made his life hell on to of all the horrors that he was already put through. I’d explain that better but…my husband had a clearance, my son had a clearance hell, even I had a clearance from a job I had back in Virginia. Most of what happened was classified and got ugly enough that everyone got retired out of the military except the commander (that was straight from the resolute desk). My son came home a train wreck and I can’t even tell anyone what he’d been put through. It was a nightmare and it took us and the VA 4 years to get him back to almost functioning. It took even longer to get him straight.
He took awhile to find a job, then a different job, and the job after that…then he met his daughter (no one knew and she was three before her mother told us. That little angel was the anchor he needed. She saved him, and he cleaned up and got his shit together. That was 5 years ago. He has joint custody, he is never late with the payments and we live for her weekends and weeks with us. It means so much.
Then came Musk the Moron and his stupid Dogey dudes.
My son works at the recycling plant at the nearby military facility. He can fix and can drive all the different vehicles. He spends a lot of time in the cardboard pit with the roaches and rats. There is a lot goes on, most of it gross and dirty but he has managed to save snakes lives because all the help with the rats you can get is never enough. He keeps the snakes away from the people and keeps the people from killing the snakes.
Today his boss called him in hysterics. Said they’d received notice from DOGE that they were going to have to write out what they did with their time at work that warranted a government paycheck. No one who has gotten those have survived being cut. So he’s been deemed (more or less) useless as near as we can tell. I dunno, maybe musk will drop dead or something, but I’m not counting on it. There are real humans behind these arbitrary cuts, and lives that get destroyed by a rich douche who’s never done an honest days work in his life. Musk is a load of…anyway he’s lazy, ignorant and destroying the country. I don’t even remember his name being on the ballot.
Wanna save the country? Fire musk and his perverse little squad of geeks. Impeach trump!
