Another Democrat Calls Musk a "Dick" (and also an A$$Hole). Whatever Will the US Attorney Do? [1]

A few days ago, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) suggested Elon Musk is a “dick” — House Democrat Introduces ‘Dick Pic’ of Elon Musk at Hearing in Homage to Marjorie Taylor Greene:

“I find it ironic of course that our chairwoman, Congresswoman Greene, who is in charge of running this debate — now, in our last Congress Chairwoman Greene literally showed a dick pic in an Oversight Congressional hearing. So I thought I’d bring one as well. Now this, of course, we know, is President Elon Musk.”

If that wasn’t clear enough, Garcia made sure of it a little later on. Democrat Defends Himself on CNN for Calling Elon Musk a ‘Dick’ in Committee Hearing:

“[D]o you think that calling Elon Musk a ‘dick’ is effective messaging for confronting what is a potentially irreversible transformation of the U.S. government?” [CNN’s Brianna Keilar] asked. “Well, he is a dick,” Garcia responded. “And I also think he’s harming the American public in an enormous way. And what I think is really important and what the American public want is for us to bring actual weapons to this bar fight. This is an actual fight for democracy, for the future of this country. And it’s important to push back on the chairperson of this committee.”

That last phrase — a metaphorical use of “actual weapons” — was enough for the acting US attorney for DC and all-around Trump-and-Musk toady — and dick — Ed Martin to threaten Garcia with arrest and prosecution — but as the Mediaite headline makes clear, what really bothered Martin was calling Musk a dick: MAGA U.S. Attorney Sends Letter to House Democrat Over Criticism of Elon Musk – ‘Who You Call a Dick’:

“This[ ‘actual weapons’] sounds to some like a threat to Mr. Musk – an appointed representative of President Donald Trump who you call a “dick” and government staff who work for him. Their concerns have led to this inquiry.”

Grammar sloppiness and awkward wording aside, it sure sounds like what got Martin upset was the “dick” word. (And by the way, since when is Musk an “appointed representative”?)

Maybe it was to show solidarity with Garcia, or maybe to show up Martin’s patently ridiculous argument, but Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) chose the same word to describe Musk. In the next post, she called him an even worse name — something we never used to think to hear from a United States Senator (but such are the times we live in):

Smith continued in a separate post: “I bet a lot of people have had an experience like this with a bad boss - there’s an email in your inbox on Saturday night saying, ‘Prove to me your worthiness by Monday or else.’ I’m on the side of the workers, not the billionaire asshole bosses.”

Another Senator, Patty Murray (D-WA), also got into the act, though more gently:

“Spending isn’t a ‘conspiracy’ just because Musk doesn’t know how to read usaspending.gov,” Murray wrote Saturday on X. “A program isn’t waste just because it doesn’t help the richest man in the world. It isn’t fraud because he doesn’t like it. A law is not illegal just because he disagrees with it.”

To which Musk responded with his usual class:

Musk responded to Murray on X, writing, “What did you get done this week?”

It remains to be seen how Martin will respond.
