A MODEST PROPOSAL TO AMPLIFY THE IMPACT OF BOYCOTTS that crossed my desk recently.

Suppose that instead of the standard boycott on February 28th , where participants avoid businesses that support the Trump administration’s many vile actions, we tried a modification? Suppose that we entered enterprises such as Walmart and Target, then filled shopping carts with items we would normally have purchased (NOT six-packs of smart TVs, and perhaps not perishable food items)? Then suppose we abandoned those carts in or near checkout lanes, leaving behind a written statement of intent, along with merchandise that would need to be restocked? This approach would provide those businesses with a measurable record of our impact, rather than nebulous speculations about who stayed home that day and how much it actually cost them.
