Make your Own Megaphone, Part 3 [1]

Hi there, this is #3 in a quick series for people who are working with phone scripts or writing letters to Congress. I hope this is helpful.

If you craft a written message, you can share it with others in your circle and encourage them to contact their representatives, too.

Tip 1: Be specific. Pick one topic and stick with it.

Tip 2: Reference news articles, current events, and other sources that support your message.

I had about 30 different ideas floating around in my head this morning so I just picked one. Here is my letter to the Republican who represents my Congressional District. Feel free to use it, share it, and alter as you see fit:

“Dear [Congressperson],

As a senior citizen age 65, I am deeply concerned about the future of the Social Security Administration. According to a report in the Washington Post (link below), newly appointed Acting SSA Commissioner Leland Dudek lacks the experience and qualifications necessary for the position. The Post further reported that Mr. Dudek was under investigation for allegedly violating privacy and tax laws while assisting “DOGE” personnel prior to his appointment. Considering the chaos, lack of transparency, waste of public resources and disruption of public services that DOGE has sparked at other federal agencies, I am concerned that the vital financial services administered by SSA are now also at risk. The spectacle of Trump advisor Elon Musk wielding a chainsaw at a CPAC event last Thursday was not a joke. It was a reflection of his reckless destruction of the public trust, now with the potential to impact millions of seniors here in [your home state] and around the country.

Please let me know if you are aware of the Post’s reporting and share my concerns over the future of SSA, and let me know how you plan to work across the aisle to guarantee the continued integrity of SSA and its mission.
