A sign of hope [1]

I retired from a career in technical writing almost two years ago. The last company I worked for in Silicon Valley was well known, but not quite one of the “bellwethers” (by bellwether I refer to META, Google, et al). The year before I retired the main company-wide initiative was DEI—all cultures celebrated and supported:LGBTQ, different nationalities, etc. Divvali, Lunar New Year, and Juneteenth were always celebrated, and the company benefited because of it, because an employee that feels recognized is a satisfied employee, and employee retention is a big deal in high tech.

This morning I checked the company website to see if they had scrubbed their DEI initiatives. I am gratified to report that they have not. I suppose it’s possible that they just haven’t yet updated the website, but I tend to think not. If I am correct, they are to be commended for not following the bellwethers and are still promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. What lovely words—why do some individuals find them so objectionable?.
