Trump Issues Ultimatum to Europe: Three Weeks to Force Ukraine to Surrender?!? [1]

This is effing unbelievable and unforgivable if true. From Tagtik:

A member of the European Parliament has claimed that Donald Trump has given Europe three weeks to sign Ukraine's "surrender." Earlier this week, the United States and Russia began peace negotiations in Saudi Arabia without inviting Ukraine to the table. As the conflict approaches its fourth year, Donald Trump is eager to reach a peace agreement quickly and is pressuring Ukraine to accept a deal negotiated without its involvement—an unthinkable option for Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In a post shared on X, Mika Aaltola, a Finnish parliamentarian from the European People's Party, wrote that the United States had issued an ultimatum to the European Union to "accept the terms of Ukraine's surrender." The Nordic politician was referring to the bilateral agreement being negotiated exclusively between Washington and Moscow. "Trump prioritizes Russia's security concerns now and in the future. Let them own their mess. We have three weeks to grow up," Mika Aaltola added.

I’m going to repost a comment I made in Mark Sumners diary last night about what ahistorical analog the current situation might best be compared to:

The original 1939 pact, is mostly remembered for putting a line down the middle of Poland to split the nation between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. However, it also divided the rest of Europe. It handed over five other European nations to Stalin. Everything else was Hitler's to destroy.

I would argue that this is even worse than the 1938 Munich Pact and the 1939 Hitler-Stalin “Nonaggression” Treaty put together. At least back then Europe was still technically at peace, even if the later was the prelude to the opening act of WW2.

What we have now is more akin to the situation in Sep-Oct, 1942, with the Afrika Korps still threatening Suez from El Alamein and the German 6th Army closing in on Stalingrad; and then a coup takes place in the US replacing FDR with the Nazi apologist Lindberg. — with Russia representing the Nazis this time, Ukraine taking the place of the Soviet Union, and European NATO standing in for the British Empire.

So the first thing Lindberg/Trump does is offer Hitler/Putin a unilateral ceasefire (since American troops have yet to engage in any real ground conflict with Germans yet, even though the invasion of Vichy-French North Africa is just weeks away at this point, along with the crushing British counterattack at El Alamein, and the devastating Soviet breakthrough against over-extended flanks at Stalingrad — which together marked the true turning point of WW2 and ultimately doomed the Axis.

And then since Lindberg/Trump simply wants the war to end, regardless of any other consideration, he cuts off all lend-lease aid to both the USSR/Ukraine and Britain/NATO and demands the existing front lines should be the basis for subsequent “peace” negotiations — essentially allowing the Nazis/Russians (and their various fascist allies) to keep their current conquests while they are allowed a respite to replenish their exhausted armies and plot the final overthrow of both the USSR/Ukraine and the British/NATO position in the Middle East/Eastern Europe.

History will never forgive us if Trump’s version of America is allowed to stab our allies in the back and let Putin’s Orcs run roughshod over Ukraine and the rest of Europe at the very moment when victory in the form of a collapsing Russian economy and exhausted military is potentially within sight. Likewise, European NATO needs to realize that if they can no longer rely on the US to protect them from Russian imperialism, they need to treat the Russian invasion of Ukraine with the seriousness it really demands and place their own economies on a war footing ASAP.
