Welcome, welcome, greetings and welcome to another of my little bits of fluff. I figure I've got enough pics to keep posting Ireland diaries for a couple months. Are you with me? Let's get another one started.
Powerscourt Estate
When we went to Powerscourt, we skipped the tour of the imposing house and went straight for the gardens. The 47 acres that make up the gardens are world famous and if I'd had another day I'd have made the hike out to the waterfall that Wikipedia claims is only the second highest in Ireland, and the official Powerscourt website claims is the tallest. Considering that there is another waterfall called Sruth in Aghaidh an Aird, also called The Devil’s Chimney, which is nearly 30 meters taller— well, you'd probably be right to think the Powerscourt folks are engaged in a bit of deceptive hype. And when the gardens are praised to be among the top five gardens in the world? Well, they were certainly lovely, you have to give them that. I actually skipped much of the gardens in order to park myself on a bench and do some sketching.
From the back terrace. You can see Great Sugar Loaf in the center background
A curious feature of the gardens is a cemetery for the family pets.
A couple of Chows
Kilfane, an Irish Wolf Hound
I believe there were even some ponies and a mule in there.
You can see Powerscourt House through the trees
Thanks for stopping by. I'm out and about, traveling this week. I should be dropping into the comments though as time allows.
This is an open thread.
